DEFINITION
The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.
POll taxPoll taxes were targeted at Black people and it even affected poor white people. Also you had to pay them before you could vote. this caused a high percent of people to not vote |
Grandfather ClauseThis made it so that white people can just skip the Poll tax and literacy test. Also this was legal and was in the Constitution. This made it much hard for African Americans to vote. |
